On Saturday, April 9th we will be working with a small group of NC State students as part of their Service Raleigh Project to perform clean-up efforts in and around the neighborhood. This year we will be continuing our efforts to clean up along the Rocky Branch creek and greenway that runs through the Dorothea Dix property. As always we encourage Boylan Heights neighbors to assist us along side the NC State students. We will meet in the parking lot beside the greenway entrance on the Dorothea Dix property at 9am on the 9th (***For past participants, please note the different meeting location.***). The project typically ends after lunch (provided by the Boylan Heights Neighborhood Association).
The Big Boylan Bash is scheduled for Sunday, August 10th from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The two bands that we’ll have playing the Bash this year are the New Orleans Masqueraders and the Old Laws.
After many years of helping out the Boylan Bash with their grilling expertise, Jim and Leslie Kellenberger are hanging up their aprons to enjoy some much deserved relaxation which means that this year the Bash is going to go back to its roots and is primarily going to be a potluck event. That is of course, unless someone in the neighborhood has a commercial grill and would like the opportunity to step into the role of grill master. If such a soul exists, please contact me.
In addition to the music, beverages from the Boylan Bridge Brewpub and food there will be entertainment for the kids and a guest appearance from a Raleigh Mounted Police Officer.
Please note that Dupont Circle from Boylan Avenue to the split with Kinsey Street will be closed from Noon until approximately 9:00 pm Sunday evening for the event. You will still be able to reach Kinsey Street via Dupont at Cabarrus.
So far we have Clancy and Theys, Peter Rumsey of Allen Tate Realtors, the Northgate Group, CitySpace, Five Star Restaurant, Downtown Mobile Vet, Chris Yetter of DT & Company Real Estate, and Little Raleigh Radio as cash sponsors of the event.
In kind sponsors of the event include Boulted Bread, Interactive Playgrounds, Tuscan Blu and Lomo Market.
We’re still accepting cash sponsors for the event and definitely looking for more raffle prizes for the raffle. All money raised goes towards funding other neighborhood events and local charities.
Tickets are available now for our April-12 Tours and Tunes event.
Local: Rebus Works at 301 Kinsey St. (Tue-Fri 11-6pm, Sat 11-4pm)

Next Tuesday, we will celebrate a fun event: The ‘National Night Out’ as announced in the Newsletter. Most neighbors don’t have to go anywhere – we will stop by your house! Does it get better than that? Yes, there will be ice cream at the end!
National Night out is held around the country, by over 15,000 neighborhood watch organizations. Knowing your neighborhood well and personally knowing your neighbors is the first step in preventing crime and recognizing suspicious activity. While this is a serious topic, this will be a joyful, fun event.
Some of you had questions that we try to answer here.
